Hello, Well the only thing that has not been tried here is the death penalty for anyone caught with more than 200 grams of an illegal substance and stiff jail sentences (25 + years) for anything under 200 grams. This includes movie actors and sports celebrities. Indonesia, including Singapore has this policy. They tried all other methods since the 50's and said they did not work. Saudi Publicly beheads you for drug trafficking. I'm not saying I condone these methods but they sure would encourage me to think a good 10x before getting involved with drugs in those places. Cheers, Michael Kelly

Well, if we could find a way to make the farmers of Afghanistan grow something other than opium poppies, then not only would there be a hell of a lot less heroin on our streets, but we'd also cut off a major source of income for the Taliban. Any ideas, anyone?

There's no way to stop it but I think if we legalized marijuana, perhaps people wouldn't be so addicted to drugs and feel the need to use it quite as frequently because it would become more common. Kind of that forbidden fruit idea. On top of that, it would help out the economy and create jobs. Think about it, we would need farmers to grow the stuff, then there's advertising, then manufacturing jobs to roll the blunt and have it packaged. By no means am I advocating drug use, I just think it's pointless to keep it illegal when so many people do drugs and if you can make money off of it, why not go for it?

As long as there exist substances (natural or synthetic) which alter the brain chemistry, there will be drug use and abuse. The best we can do is control it, which is difficult, especially when one takes into consideration how many people abuse legally prescribed medications. Locking up users is not the answer. Our prisons are overcrowded with people serving time for possession as it is. Also, former inmates integrating themselves into society are burdened with a responsibility to pay a small fortune in fines and surcharges and the struggle to overcome the stigma of a criminal conviction. Many end up right back in prison or jail because of their inability to pay the fines. This is not justice. We need to stop locking up junkies and focus on prosecuting the pushers and cartels which reap huge rewards by selling illegal street drugs, revoke the licenses of doctors who over-prescribe addictive pain medications, and educate the populace on the devastating effects of drug abuse. And by "educating the populace " on drug abuse, I'm not referring to this campaign to get Americans' panties in a bunch over marijuana...I'm talking about heroin, crack, alcohol (yes, alcohol), and pain meds.

To make drugs illegal all together and to be more strict with where it's located and hidden...no one should have it..

Maybe we should have the same laws as they do in Bali.

What's wrong with drugs? If they're used in moderation they're fine.
