On one hand they have decided to move cannabis into the Class 2 category, which may make you think they are tightening up on drug- abuse and on the other hand they will be giving 2 warnings before any action is taken against the users....which makes you think they taking a soft approach. Either make it a serious offence and heavily fine the (first- time)perpetrators and jail persistent offenders or just leave things as they are....what's the point of this change? I can't agree with gobshite....The smoking ban was the best thing to happen in this country in a long time... We can now go for a pint or a meal without being subjected to noxious fumes. If you don't like it...YOU go to Zimbabwe....they still poison people there. Oh, I know...sonny! By the way, the word is "you're " not "your "..... get it right..... ...and it's spelt 'surprise' not 'supprise'....your English isn't very good is it... Michael....well said!

I agree with you. This is a typical government fudge, a half hearted measure to mollify the Mail readers on one hand and make the Guardianistas feel as if it is a liberal policy. If it is a dangerous drug then why make it not one thing or the other? Can't they make their minds up or make any sort of concrete decision at all? Jeeez......

Yer look at the way they did that illegal smoking ban....thru the back door....its ripping the heart out of the culture of this country...with the way the pubs are shutting down in droves.....they`ve taken away our personal choice ....and no one has done a bloody thing....isn`t time to say No to the facist bastards of ash ....if you don`t like it sod off to Zimbabwe and join mugabe....your on the same par as him.... so does it supprise you the government gets things wrong Haha you think ......sonny .........

Hello Wales :o) The government is just grandstanding. I reckon they know that any law which attempts to stop people smoking the devilweed is pretty much unenforceable; far too many people are doing it. But by the same token they have to make some kind of stand against it to appeal to the anti-drug lobby. The government reminds me of the sort of pillocks who start a fight then hang on to the arms of their buddies shouting "hold me back! hold me back! " because they know they're not up to the job of finishing it. And look at their policies with regard to prisons! Prisons too full? Okay, let a few paedophiles, murderers and rapists out early to make room for "serious " criminals like tax evaders and little old ladies who can't pay their council tax bills. The fact is, failure to invest in prisons and the constant dumbing down of crime has brought us to a situation where we now have to define the law not according to what is wrong or right, or just or unjust, but by how many beds and tellies with Sky TV are available to those who do get locked up. This country couldn't lock up it's druggies even if it wanted to. In short, we're screwed, Rolyn. As a society we've taken all the soft options for far too long - the idiots have taken over the asylum and we now worry more about the criminals than we do the victims. And we now have prisons strictly for foreign criminals instead of just deporting the swines and making room for our own, home-bred scumbags. Is it any wonder the insanity seems to grow day by day?
