Alcoholism: Drug Abuse Facts

Question: Are there any believers who have struggled with alcoholism and found turning back to god helped them?

I'm a wife and mother who has found myself overwhelmed by my alcohol use. What started out as something to relax or calm my nerves over the stresses of marriage, work etc has multiplied into a problem. Now I am drinking every single day, earlier sometimes too. I also smoke cigarettes and run off to the bar because I don't want to drink or smoke around my daughter. I need some words of encouragement because it feels like i'm not strong enough to stop this cycle. I am wasting money, like $200 a month on my drinking/ cigarette habits. I want to stop but when the stress starts, it seems it's the only release I have. HELP! OK. Those quotes didn't really help me with my problem but thanks, it is interesting. I'm not only talking about Christianity, but believers of God, in general.

You can look into the typical 12 step program, which relies heavily on religious faith. However, it should be noted that the percentage of people who complete 12 step programs and stay sober is exactly the same number as people who just try and quit on their own: %5

Are you kidding? What Bible are you reading??? Jeremiah 25:27-28 (NIV) "Then tell them, “This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Drink, get drunk and vomit, and fall to rise no more because of the sword I will send among you.� But if they refuse to take the cup from your hand and drink, tell them, 'This is what the LORD Almighty says: YOU MUST DRINK IT! Hey, how would you like to have the Bible God as a bartender? I know it is a bit too primitive, but with a little training he seems to have what it takes! He must be serving some cheap whiskey in this story! BTW, God doesn’t ID! If drinking is a sin do you think that God would force his chosen people of Israel to get DRUNK to the point of VOMITING? You better start praying RIGHT NOW that if you feel that God is about to chastise you for whatever reason that you have the chance to have a few drinks first to pick up some spark, but please no matter what the Bible says, don’t overdo it! Drinking until you collapse is about the pattern in the Bible, and the dysfunctional Bible God loves to watch you VOMIT! The Bible God made King Solomon “the Wisest Man ever to set Foot on this Earth!� And this is what he has to say about drinking in his book of Proverbs. Proverbs 31:6-7 (NIV) Give beer to those who are perishing, wine to those who are in anguish; let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more* (*I always hear all the opposite from a preacher, WHILE THE PREACHER DOES DRINK, but discreetly in the closet, of course!)! The Priestly Bible writers are saying that nothing beats a good shot of hard liquor to get you back on your feet! I just wonder what makes the Christians today so prude and intolerant! It must be a Victorian Era hangover, not from the Bible! Zachariah 9:17 (KJV) For how great is his goodness* (*God’s goodness), and how great is his beauty* (*God’s beauty)! Corn* (*fermented corn whiskey!) shall make the young men cheerful, and new wine the maids* (*even in Bible times, wining the ladies was most appropriate!). 1 Corinthians 9:4 (KJV) (Saint Paul says) - Have we not POWER to eat and to DRINK?* (*Yeap, but Christians today don’t go for that anymore!) God sets himself as an example of how much to drink! Numbers 28:7 (NIV) The accompanying drink offering is to be a quarter of a hin of FERMENTED DRINK (KJV "strong wine ") with each lamb* (*The Jewish Priests used to sacrifice lambs by the thousands so you can imagine how many US Gallons of booze that is…) POUR OUT THE DRINK OFFERING TO THE LORD at the sanctuary* (*BTW, the “sanctuary� of The LORD must have smelled like a cheap bar joint with so much booze offerings poured all over the Altar!). The Bible writers are telling us what it is like when this Boozer God wakes up in the morning with a terribly hangover… Psalm 78:65 “THEN THE LORD AWOKE AS FROM SLEEP, AS A MAN WAKES FROM THE STUPOR OF WINE� Yeah… after all that fermented drink and strong wine offerings… red eyes… vomiting all over like when he was forcing everybody else to drink until they vomit… cursing like Hell… lacking good judgment.... and ready to start killing Christians especially those who are not up to date with their tithes and offerings! Christians came up with the crazy idea of shutting down liquor stores and bars on Sunday mornings during worship hours! It is like slapping God’s face real hard for demanding a “strong drink offering!� Revelation 14:10-11 (NIV) [Jesus says] "he, too, will drink of the wine of God's fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath.* (*sheer boozer God talk!) 2 Peter 1:21 (KJV) For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost* (*this statement comes as an epilogue to the Bible so you know that the Bible God inspired all that was written in it! Or was it the smoke of some notorious “burning bush�…?) Preachers won’t tell you this much because they know what to skim off the Bible so your faithfully giving to The LORD won’t waiver! Christians hate atheists because they tell you like it is in the Bible, without giving you any “spiritually speaking� crap! And all the gratitude that I am getting is TDs!

Yes! Not me personally, but my dad. He's a devoted Christian. He used to be an atheist and alcoholic when I was younger, for about a fourth of my life. Don't turn to drinking for comfort and security. It's temporary. God's love is ever lasting. Pray and ask God to help you repent and ask him for security and strength. Tell him everything that's bothering you. He wants to hear it. You sound a lot like my mom, she won't listen to a a word i say and is slowly falling into depression. she tried to take her own life a few weeks ago. Without God, i don't know what I would be doing now.

Yes, God can and will help you if you desire to be free. Your part is to step out and admit you have a problem to those you love and look for accountability. 'Celebrate Recovery' is a Christ-centered 12 step group that can be very helpful to you. Or there are traditional A.A. meetings. Going to church is also a big step. Getting the accountability and using it will be key to curb your desires to go down to the bar. It won't be easy, but God will help you. He helped me.

That is called a placebo effect. But at the end of the day, if the placebo gives you the results you need than great. Good luck with your problems.

My problem was meth, to break the boredom. It took awhile, but I had to change alot of things in my life, to get away from it. Suggestions. Find a hobby, Volunteer at a hospital etc. Get a part time job. Take classes at a college. Maybe you could really pray about it. That helped me also.

My father and I both struggled with alcohol abuse. We both turned to God. He stopped completely. For me however I had a couple of relapses. I have other issues going on that may need medication, so I go to a therapist as well. My belief in God and the therapists have helped me overcome this addiction.

Why not look at psychology and biology rather than religion when it comes to health issues. There is a theory that all alcoholics are hypoglycemic (they have low blood sugar) and the booze is a way of the body to regulate sugar as booze contains sugar.
