Question: If you are genetically disposed to homosexuality or alcoholism, does that mean it is not a serious sin?
(Posted by: Bruce on 2009-06-24 20:31:45)
Both alcoholics and homosexuals, along with their enablers, argue that alcoholism and homosexuality are genetically predestined. If this is so, does a genetic predisposition absolve the alcoholic or homosexual from serious sin? Or is one predisposed to alcoholism or homosexuality obliged to abstain from drinking or homosexual relations and avoid the occasion of sin, i.e., remove himself or herself from alcoholic or homosexual temptations? In plain language, if you have a weakness for booze or sodomy, is it okay with God if you indulge, or do you have a special obligation to steer clear of the bars and bathhouses where you are going to lose it? |

No. Nothing absolves sin but the Blood of Jesus Christ, with a person's repentance of their sins, no matter what sins they are. |

I don't know about alcoholism, as it can't compare to homosexuality at all, but I do know that being gay is something your born with. It'd be stupid for God to make people gay and then tell them not to act on they're attractions and desires. |

Neither is genetic. Homosexuality is hormonic, and alcoholism is brought on by over-exposure to alcohol. You aren't born with addictions, you make them. |

Bologna. My family has a history of alcoholism and yet I am not an alcoholic. Why? Because I know the history and choose not to drink. Its called will power, and using "my family does it " will not cut it when it comes time to answer for your sin. |

Nice, but slightly long-winded question. The simple answer is that there is no such thing as "sin, " as it's a bullcrap religious invention. Additionally, you are wrong to equate a disease such as alcoholism with an inherent, innate sexual preference. To use a tired and worn cliche: you're mixing apples with oranges. You're not as bright as you delusionally think you are. @ Dr. Doris - Being one sick homophobic puppy is a "sin. " To hell you shall go (don't worry, hell doesn't really exist, so I'm just being facetious - if you don't know what the word means get a dictionary). Don't be surprised if your worthless answer is removed by the nice folks at Yahoo! Answers. (Update: this jerk's answer has been removed). |

No, the only time you will commit a sin is when you have a choice you chose the bad side of your conscience. But since you had no choice there is no conscience choice and therefore there is no way you could commit a sin. |

Homosexuality isn't a sin. I guess alcoholism could be considered gluttony. I'm not a religious person though. But as far as alcoholism goes I'd say no. You can better yourself no matter what. |

Any religious person who would care would say that those things are not genetically inherited, and 100% controllable. they think homosexuality can be "cured ". if you look at the dilemma logically, it makes sense that something UNcontrollable, like a genetically inherited habit or lifestyle, couldn't possibly be blamed on the person who has it, and therefore couldn't be considered a sin. but if you were to look at it logically, you'd realize that religion is all a bunch of bul1sh1t anyway, so the answer is irrelevant. |

The truth is according to the Bible we are all "genetically disposed " to sin. We are all born sinners, we all have the desire to sin with in us. Christianity when lived out in faith is the rejection of sin which is so natural to us and the embracing of obedience which is impossible without the Holy Spirits work in our life. Homosexual sin is no different than heterosexual sin. Both the straight person and the gay person have the desire to fulfill their sexual wants, but the Bible asks us to "deny ourselves " and do what God wants. Its our responsibility as Christians to steer away bars or bathhouses if that is where our weakness lies. |

Alcoholics can choose whether or not to drink. Gays can't choose who they find sexy. Completely different. And actually alcoholism doesn't have to do with genes but with a certain part of the brain called the Insula. The cause of homosexuality is still unknown. |

The way i hear it....so long as you are christian and admit you are a disgusting worthless sinner and jesus was strung up and tortured for you you are pretty much free to sin however you want because you'll be forgiven. and i also heard (from the same book you did) that ALL SINS are equal. and i'm willing to bet you have at least one item of clothing made of more than one cloth. that is also a sin. how does it feel to be in the same group as a homo? yes....very humbling isn't it...finger-pointer? |

If you actually believe in God, he will forgive ALL YOUR SINS. If you don't he will anyway. God will forgive all, why don't you try forgiving these people, you ARE a Christian aren't you? |

I think God is a whole lot wiser and forgiving than your question implies. I see a lot of people that seem to me to be sexually obsessed. They are forever talking about homosexuality, sin, and wanting to pass laws against whatever they hate. I think that God is wise and powerful enough to take care of things He doesn't like. I'm also sure that His forgiveness extends to even sinners. So let the sinners sin, and forgiveness go to those wise and humble enough to pray for it. He made everyone, He knows every heart, and He knows what sin each person will make before they commit it. In the end, I do not demand justice from God, I plead for forgiveness. |

HIOMOSEXUALITY IS A SIN > BUT .. HOMOSEXUALITY IS NOT ANY GREATER SIN THAN ANYOTHER >. ALL SIN IS SIN .With all that said, the Bible does not describe homosexuality as a greater sin that any other. All sin is offensive to God. Homosexuality is just one of the many things listed in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 that will keep a person from the kingdom of God. According to the Bible, God’s forgiveness is just as available to a homosexual as it is to an adulterer, idol worshipper, murderer, thief, etc. God also promises the strength for victory over sin, including homosexuality, to all those who will believe in Jesus Christ for their salvation (1 Corinthians 6:11; 2 Corinthians 5:17). got questions.com BUT ALL SIN CAN BE FORGIVEN. I do not hold with the position that these conditions are a genetic defect. I have heard this argument and given it much consideration, and have come to the conclusion that if we agree with that position, it would be as if we have said that we were created with a defect, which flies in the face of what the Bible teaches. I maintain that these are learned responses, due to our life experiences in combination with a lack of proper teaching, and a lack of respect for ourselves. We are not born with a homosexual bent, neither are we born with a need for alcohol, else we would see very young people demonstrating the effects of such, which we do not. The argument that this is somehow "in-born " is merely an attempt to sidestep the real issue, which is low self image, lack of pride, and lack of motivation. To say that we are born with this is to duck the issue, in an attempt to have us sympathetically agree that is is okay to transgress. If this is accepted by the population at large, my question would have to be "where do we draw the line "? Would we have then to embrace "natural born killers.......rapists...theives? A very slippery slope indeed. Be well. |
