It's tradition like our easter. Read about the history of st. patrick's day.

Why do you have to flaunt your moronic lack of trolling ability today?

Ah, lass, to the Chosen People, the day which honors the beloved St. Patrick is an amateur's day for drinkin'. We may have a dram or two in celebration, but it's not much different than any other day for us. Maybe you're confusin' us with Irish wannabes. You can tell us apart: they wear green on St. Paddy's Day, while we can wear ANY DAMN THING WE WANT!!!!

I am Irish & I find your question an insult to my Heritage if you really want to learn about our history I suggest you find out the truth

No. This is a prejudicial stereotype. The percentage of Irish alcoholics is no higher than other Western Countries. With love in Christ.

I think it's more of an excuse to drink for anybody that isn't Irish. I'm sure they wouldn't drink any more than us Aussies on Australia day

Stop being racism .. Considering on St Paddy's day everyone is going through their familly tree to see if they have a relative mildly related to a potato farmer, it's merely an excuse to drink green beer. So it is hardly just the Irish who get drunk of St Patrick's day. You sound jealous - what? no Irish ancestry??? Kiss a potato

"The Irish " are not alcoholics. For those who choose to overindulge, it's the perfect excuse. The problem is that it perpetuates a stereotype-but the overindulgent tend to be egocentric when it comes to their choices. Your assumption is a perfect example of how deeply imbeded stereotypes become.

We don't flaunt it, we celebrate it. There's a difference.

What's your problem? do you have any idea what our ancestors had to endure for the last, oh i don't know 1,000 years? especially the irish and scot-irish that migrated to america read up on it. i would think you would have a beer or two after knowing that your families elders went through what they did... and if someone was rude to you when they were drunk on st patties day, don't say it was because they were irish, every single ethnic group and culture on this earth has people that act foolish when they drink

Because the Irish love to drink!

What country are you in? We don't do that much celebrating of Paddy's Day in Ireland - NY makes much more of a fuss and it's cosmopolitan celebration and drinking there. No offence to UK but why do so many footie fans in that case have to "flaunt " their alcoholism every Saturday?

Why do you have to annoy me by making a judgment on my life? The REAL Irish, i.e. people who live in the actual country, have the right to. It's tradition. And one day a year doesn't make you an alcoholic. As for all them weird Americans who think they are Irish, I dunno, don't care. We just think they're oddballs anyway. Oh no, I just insulted their "heritage ".
