Is alcoholism really similar to homosexuality?
No, I am not homophobic. I recently told someone that homosexuality is biological and something you are born with. This person responded by saying that alcoholism is something you can be born with and is immoral, therefore just because you are born a certain way doesn't make it moral. Now I realize that alcoholism is self destructive and harms those who cares about you while homosexuality is none of these things, but is there something I can say that shows that homosexuality and alcoholism are not even in the same ballpark for comparison? I don't know why, but something tells me this is a lousy comparison.

Alan Watts - if he really believed in what he said, why couldnt he controlled his alcoholism?
I like reading Alan Watts. I am deeply moved by his writings and feel that they 'speak to me'. However, I recently learned that he died from alcohol poisioning or live failure from alcohol. Why couldnt Alan practised what he preached, and resist alchohol?Some very good replies. Pherhaps I should word my question better.
